US ambassador-designate to Tokyo says China and North Korea will present new security challenges

Rahm Emanuel, the US ambassador-designate to Tokyo, described the US-Japan alliance as “a breakwater that protects the region”, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

“Although it is strong, it must always be strengthened and nurtured for the future,” he said, adding that China and North Korea will present new security challenges.
