China Bans ‘Russian Planes’ Flying Through Its Airspace – Airways

 

China has banned Russian Boeing and Airbus planes owned by foreign leasing companies from flying through its territory because the legal status of the planes has “not been confirmed” since sanctions were imposed after Russia invaded Ukraine and the planes were re-registered, according to a report by Airways magazine, which cited the Russian news outlet RBK (RBC Group).

“China has requested proof that the aircraft in question are no longer registered outside of Russia,” it said, noting that Western leasing companies terminated deals with Russian contractors who operate a large share of Russia’s fleet. Earlier this month, Chinese aviation authorities asked all airlines to update their electronic dossiers with details about aircraft, owners and ground handling deals, but RBK said “Russian airlines have been unable to produce such documents” – so China was observing international air law, the report said.
