China says it has brought its overseas tourists home

(ATF) – The State Council’s joint Covid-19 task force has said Chinese officials will bring all the nation’s tourists home, state media reported.

Liu Kezhi, director of the Department of Market Management of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said there was an estimated 250,000 people still overseas when the suspension of travel agencies and online travel companies was put in place on January 24.

They were brought back to China with the cooperation of the Foreign Ministry and civil aviation authority.

Officials said only about 100 people remain abroad on official tours.
