China’s BYD to Debut EV Models in Japanese Market

BYD will start selling battery-powered cars in Japan next year, marking the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker’s debut in the world’s third-largest car market by sales.

The move is part of its international push, which has seen the company open showrooms in New Zealand and Singapore, as well as Norway, Brazil, Costa Rica and Colombia.

The Shenzhen-based auto and battery producer includes Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway as an investor.

The company held a brand conference in Tokyo and announced plans to start selling a small all-electric battery car called the ATTO 3 at the start of next year, followed by two additional EV models later in 2023.
