Japanese companies plan to find new sources of liquefied natural gas in case of disruption of supply from projects that Japan developed with Russia, the Financial Times reported.
That could put Japan in direct competition with Europe for global gas supplies, creating as dilemma for Tokyo as it scrambles to meet its own energy needs while trying to show solidarity with western allies.
