Transmission of coronavirus all but blocked, say authorities

(ATF) – China has declared the transmission of the novel coronavirus has been interrupted, though there are still some reported cases and risks of local outbreaks.

At a meeting by the leading group on Covid-19 prevention and control on Monday, Premier Li Keqiang stressed that measures should be taken to control the import of the virus and to prevent the resurgence of cases within the country, a report by Xinhua said.

The virus came to light when it spread throughout the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year and has since gone on to become a pandemic.

Reports said the city would begin allowing healthy people out of their homes, despite a new case being reported, ending a five-day run of no new infections in the Hubei province capital.

A strategy of preventing the import of the disease from abroad and a relapse at home should be taken to maintain the gains in the fight against the epidemic, the meeting agreed.

Officials urged work to further strengthen international exchanges and cooperation, prevent cross-border input and output of the epidemic in an accurate and effective way, help the international community to fight against the epidemic, and facilitate foreign commercial procurement of anti-epidemic materials, the Xinhua report said.
