The US military’s Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) has been considering using rockets from Elon Musk’s SpaceX company as a quick way to deliver cargo – and possibly even a “quick reaction force” – to sites around the world in the event of emergencies that require urgent aid, according to a report by The Intercept.
A press statement by USTRANSCOM said that one day SpaceX’s massive Starship rocket could “quickly move critical logistics during time-sensitive contingencies” and “deliver humanitarian assistance,” the report said, adding that the Pentagon also “alluded to potentially shuttling personnel” via brief space jaunts, citing documents obtained under Freedom of Information requests.
