Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s power plays over the past decade have been so complete that he is unlikely to pay a significant political price for the economic slowdown brought on by his country’s Covid-19 surge, the Financial Times reported.

“There is downside for Xi from zero-Covid but the question is, is it meaningful and what’s the practical impact,” Christopher Johnson, a former top China analyst at the CIA, told the FT.
