YouTube, the US online video sharing platform on Wednesday took down the channel used by John Lee – the sole Beijing-chosen candidate for Hong Kong chief executive – due to US sanctions, the South China Morning Post reported.

Lee, formerly Hong Kong’s security secretary, was one 11 officials hit with sanctions “for undermining Hong Kong’s autonomy and restricting the freedom of expression or assembly of the citizens of Hong Kong” in August 2020, according to the US Treasury.
